Amherst Democrats invite you to attend a public forum on ballot questions 5, 7 and 9, to be held on October 7 at 7 p.m. in the Amherst Police Department’s community room in downtown Amherst.

Speakers on the “yes” and “no” sides are confirmed for all three questions, and there will be time for Q&A on each measure. The three questions will appear on the ballot in this November’s election.

Question 5: Change the limit of how much revenue the state can collect each year

• Yes: Chris Keohane, Spokesperson for Taxpayers for an Affordable Massachusetts

• No: Kurt Wise, Senior Policy Analyst at the Massachusetts Budget and Policy Center

Question 7: Allow single-family homes to be built in residentially zoned lots of at least 5,000 square feet

• Yes:  Andrew Mikula, Chief Housing Economist at The Pioneer Institute

• No: Adrienne Nunez, Senior Legislative Director at the Massachusetts Municipal Association

Question 9: Keep or reject an existing state gun law

• Yes: Megan DesAutels, Campaign Coordinator for Vote Yes on 9 for a Safe Massachusetts

• No: Brendan Salisbury, Legislation and Lobbying Committee Chair at the Massachusetts Liberal Gun Club

After the guest presentations, members of the Amherst Democratic Town Committee will discuss and vote on endorsements for or against the three questions.
